Visiting Castle Sarre In The Italian Aosta Valley – E25

SARRE, ITALY: Castle Sarre has a long history dating back to the 13th century. The castle is situated on a small hill not far from the town of Aosta and overlooks the Aosta Valley. The castle was summer residence of the royal family Savoy of Italy until the middle of the 20th century. Today rooms with an authentic interior can be visited. The castle was used as a place for hunting trips to the nearby mountains and has a room with impressive hunting trophies.

Visiting The Ancient Castle Ruin Saint Germain In The Italian Aosta Valley ?? – E14

AOSTA VALLEY, ITALY: On a trip through the Valle d’Aosta we noticed an impressive old castle ruin on a hill. The old ruin was Saint Germain Castle. The ruin can be reached from a small parking place at an old church directly over a short but steep footpath. The ruin was surrounded by a fence, but the gate was open and we could visit it. Unfortunately there is very little to know about this ruin. The castle is said to have been abandoned since the 1660s and was probably built around the 13th century.

Visiting Castle Verres In The Italian Aosta Valley – E13

VERRES, ITALY: The Valle d’Aosta is a fantastic area in the north of Italy in the middle of the Alps. The valley borders directly on Switzerland and France and has the highest and most beautiful mountains in Europe, Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. The valley is a wonderful destination for hikes to the peaks of the mountains or for exploring the numerous historical sites dating back to Roman times of over 2000 years ago.

How Does A 60$ Mountain Pasture House Look Like In The Italian Aosta Valley? ?? – E11

DOUES, ITALY: The Valle d’Aosta is a fantastic area in the north of Italy in the middle of the Alps.
This time we rented a house at 1750m altitude near the village Doues. With only approx. 60$ cost per night this was unbelievably cheap. The house has a unique view to the city of Aosta and is almost completely remote. At the same time, the house is equipped with everything one needs. Unfortunately there is no direct link but the house is the Chez Paolo in Doues (Aosta Valley).

Abandoned Mountain Pasture House In The Italian Aosta Valley ?? – E10

DOUES, ITALY: From the terrace of our house in the Valle d’Aosta we could see two abandoned houses at an altitude of 1800 m, visited by nothing but cows. The buildings in the Italian Alps appear differently than, for example, in Switzerland. This is probably because they are quite old or old techniques are still used. Typically, loose stones are stacked on top of each other with cement. The ruins now called for a small inspection to perhaps see how people lived at this height and under these conditions decades and centuries ago.

Namibia – Intro

Shortly after the return from Tasmania we thought about where the next vacation could take place. We looked at the world map, but there was not really any country we were interested in. In many countries there are too many negative aspects, which cannot be reconciled with our kind of vacation, i.e. to travel. South America can come later. Besides Antarctica this is the only continent I still miss. Asia is difficult to rent a car and drive.

2012 China – Intro

Travelogue of a 2000 km tour through China in May-June 2012. Due to a business stay I had some days to travel around in China with starting point Dalian. The question arose at the beginning, where to go and what is feasible in which time. Originally the route was supposed to run further west, but was discarded due to lack of time. A detour to inner Mongolia was also rejected, as the return would have to take place on the same route. So I decided for maximum day trips of about 300 – 500 km with the destination Shanghai in nine days.
