VERRES, ITALY: The Valle d’Aosta is a fantastic area in the north of Italy in the middle of the Alps. The valley borders directly on Switzerland and France and has the highest and most beautiful mountains in Europe, Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. The valley is a wonderful destination for hikes to the peaks of the mountains or for exploring the numerous historical sites dating back to Roman times of over 2000 years ago.

Hiking To The 2700m High Col De Champillon In The Italian Aosta Valley ?? – E12

DOUES, ITALY: For a hike we have chosen the Col de Champillon. The starting point of the route was only a few minutes by car above our house and situated at an altitude of approx. 2040m from the village of Doues. The start took place from a parking lot over high mountain meadows up to the mountain refuge Champillon. Then there was a very steep ascent of about 50 degrees to the end of the hike on the Col de Champillon ridge at 2700m altitude. The visit of the ridge is rewarded with a view to different peaks of the Alps, among them the Mont Blanc.

This time we rented a house at 1750m altitude near the village Doues. With only approx. 60$ cost per night this was unbelievably cheap. The house has a unique view to the city of Aosta and is almost completely remote. At the same time, the house is equipped with everything one needs. Unfortunately there is no direct link but the house is the Chez Paolo in Doues (Aosta Valley).

Abandoned Mountain Pasture House In The Italian Aosta Valley ?? – E10

DOUES, ITALY: From the terrace of our house in the Valle d’Aosta we could see two abandoned houses at an altitude of 1800 m, visited by nothing but cows. The buildings in the Italian Alps appear differently than, for example, in Switzerland. This is probably because they are quite old or old techniques are still used. Typically, loose stones are stacked on top of each other with cement. The ruins now called for a small inspection to perhaps see how people lived at this height and under these conditions decades and centuries ago.

Castle Ruin Zavelstein – Germany ?? 4K

ZAVELSTEIN, GERMANY: Burg Zavelstein is located in the northern Black Forest in Germany. It is a ruin of a castle that was built around 1200. The castle was destroyed in 1692 and has been abandoned since then. The clearest remnant is the 28 m high tower, which is still in good condition today. Parts of the outer walls remain from the rest of the castle. The castle can be visited free of charge. Only for the ascent to the tower you have to pay 50 ct.

Castle Ruin Saint Ulrich – France ?? 4K

Our weekly Sunday excursion took place this time in the French Vosges. The Vosges are a low mountain range in the east of France near the Rhine plain. The Vosges are full of historic buildings and the Saint Ulrich ruin is one of them. The ruin is located not far from the small town of Ribeauville on a hill with a beautiful view over the Rhine Valley.

?? 2019 Germany – Burg Teck (Castle Teck) 4K

Actually, we wanted to go to our garden. From the garden we always saw a castle on a mountain. The castle is the castle Teck in the federal state Baden Württemberg in Germany. So we decided to stop by and see if a trip there would be worth it. From the parking lot it was not then nevertheless so far and we went spontaneously the right steep ascent to the castle.
